I am in search of a stanza of poetry, possibly from the movie Love Story, or some other media device.

The stanza is something like:

...If it comes back, it was meant to be...

I seem to recall a description of a bird flying away from the nest
A beautiful piece of prose that I've always loved, and for some reason cannot recall it now.

Perhaps early Alzheimers???

Basically, it is a piece of prose about letting love go, and if it doesn't come back, it wasn't meant to be.

and so on and so on.... yada...yada...yada

Gosh, I suppose my brain is pickled again!

Can any of you help? It is such a lovely verse.

If you know it, or know who wrote it please share it with me either here or via e-mail.

Thanks!

This probably isn't the one you were thinking of but I read it on a sticker on a biker's helmet. It went something like this:

If you love someone, set her free...
If she doesn't come back, Hunt her down and kill her.

Dennis:

I found that one, and I suppose it is supposed to be funny.

I'm certain you know the one I'm thinking of --- I just can't remember it. I think it was spoken in the movie Love Story?

Anyone have a clue?

We could change the stanza to if she doesn't come back...perhaps that is better for you and me.

Ah shucks...I don't claim to be a poet.

It was about a bird in flight leaving the nest. or yada..yada.

Maybe I'm just lost in orbit somewhere!

Dennis, that's too funny.

Sorry Barbie. I just couldn't resist.

The one you're thinking about went something like this.

If you love someone, set them free. If they return to you, they're yours forever. If not, then they never were.

That's not exact, but something like that. I have no clue who penned it. Sorry.

Best,

Vickie

Barbie, I know this one, in fact I used to have a copy of it on my wall when I was going through a very traumatic divorce. Only I can't remember it.

But, I've got a couple of copies of "The Best Loved Poems of the American People" only they are in the back room buried. I will try to find them tomorrow and see if I can find it for you.

Okay, I cheated I did a search on google and came up with this:

i dunno, if this is all of it or not, I remember the bird thing too, but maybe that's because the poster that had this on it, had birds on it. Did that make sense? Oh well, it's late, so here's what I've found so far.

If you love something, set it free. If it comes back to you, it is yours... If it doesn't, it was never meant to be

Here's another version;

If you love something or someone or something set it free like a bird. If it comes back to you its yours forever. If it doesn't come back it was never meant to be yours.

and another one:

If you love something, set it free. If it comes
back to you, it's yours. If it doesn't, it never was (this one is my favorite version - for whatever that's worth)

smiles and blessings, kitty
