There is a story in this well produced antho (How do they get such an awesoem quality for 8 bucks out of a tiny paperback?????) by British author Shaun Jeffrey called FLIBBERTIGIBBET that absolutely rocks my world. Anyone ever heard of such a pagan god by that title? |

Heh. I was just looking at Evilution on Amazon, and it happens to have been written by one Shaun Jeffrey. That's really weird. |

I write many different types of material, but I never set out as saying "Today it will be mystery...or today high fantasy" for many of my stories mix and match. Alot of my barbarian tales are pretty horrific. The Dack Shannon material has a touch of everything, but leans on heavy suspense and mystery/conspiracy etc. I think there is a huge difference in the barbarian stuff and the Dack stuff, personally. Dunno, it is like one flows better. The tale fo mine in DEATHGRIP featuring Elijah Blackthorn....that is horror and some high fant I guess one calls it. Where Elijah usually views history, this tiem he must fight for his life. Shrunken heads, totems, Druids in Canada, giant Celts, gotta love ZENITH OF THE TOTEM. Not to slight BLACKEST DEATH Antho. My tale Harbinger tells of a modern Wizard dying of cancer....and seeing his own death growing larger every minute in his field of vision...and thus, he decides to settle a mountain of scores as the darkness looms... |

Howdy Mark... Steven is one great writer (and productive beyond belief)...but that's just my humble opinion... I need to pick up a copy of his Dack Shannon anthology, Nocturnal Vacations... |

That is a good place to start, but I have progressed greatly as a writer since then...NOCTURNAL VACATIONS is a cool way to into oneself to Dack Shannon. Visit www.stevenshrewsbury.com to learn more. Thanks Todd. |

We all progress as writers... that's the nature of writing... I'm certain the stuff I coming out with now (after Hero) is improved... At least I'm hoping so... ;-) |

It just takes time and repeating the process. Since I write alot of shorter tales, when I hit a bigger novel idea, the difference shows. It is all a learning process. Some writers are slaves to novels. Try a smaller pr0ject for a change and see how it works. Thsi project may not be a winner, but one never knows. I just got offered to do a tale for a D&D type of module...and I know jack squat about the universe of RPG stuff. However, the guy said, I tell stories good and am not jaded by D&D silliness....so there ya go.

Actually, I was able to get a smaller (<1000 words) project in the form of a short story...it's currently in a contest at another site I frequent. I'm hoping to be chosen as the winner (by readers), and then I'll have that in my corner for when I submit it...need to figure out where to do that, as well...irk. Of course, I had a really obvious moment of inspiration which led to writing this short story...if I wait around for another of those for another piece of writing, it might be a long while...who knows? That's interesting, about the D&D module...I know even less about RPG games (other than those I've had the misfortune of trying to play on computers...irk), but I imagine given some of the genres you write in, you'd be a good fit... |

Wellllll one might think that.... I ground alot of my tales in Eart history. Alot of the D&D stuff is made up worlds aping human history. Shrugs. The basic stuff will be easy....but the names, facts and ruels will be added later, I wager. I do not have the time to role play games, or learn another persons Bible on it...I'd rather make up my own rules. |

Yeah, ain't that something? Some folks are so brilliant they cannot see the forest for the trees. Back to the original point of this thread, the DEATHGRIP antho is like a reg little paperback...not an oversized one. It is really a quality product from HELLBOUND BOOKS. http://www.hellboundbooks.com/deathgrip_legacy.html Walt Hicks (editor) tells me it sold out first week on SHOCKLINES. The few folks who have written me tell me this contains my best Elijah Blackthorn tale ever. I dunno, still plenty more to tell... |
