My editor at RiverOak/Cook sent me a copy of the prelim cover art for Until the Last Dog Dies. He said they were trying for a dark, Elmore Leonard/Robert B. Parker feel, and I think they're on the right track. The cover is black, with the title in white with a thin red outline. In the upper righthand corner are the words A Joe Box Mystery in a greenish box. At the bottom of the cover appears the name of yours truly. What's neatest about it, though, is separating the title and the author byline is a very stylized dog on his back, feet in the air, quite dead, with a puddle of blood pouring out of his skull. Yowza! Fresh ground for a CBA book, I think. He told me they're moving so fast because they're wanting it done for the catalogs, which the sales people will be taking to the store buyers beginning around Christmastime. He also said they (the sales staff) are pretty cranked about the book, and can't wait to start showing it. When the final version is done, I'll see if I can't get my son to help me post it here (technological Luddite that I am). Later! John |

Congrats, John... Hope to be able to see the cover soon... And love to hear those words, "which the sales people will be taking to the store buyers beginning around Christmastime"... Music to an author's ears... |

Forget you guys??? NO WAY!!!!!!!!!! (enough exclamation points?) You people, all of you Mindsighters, are my brothers and sisters in this crazy ride called writing. I'd sooner forget my own name. Laurel and Nancy gave me the kindest reviews for SMB that I've ever read, and it was through Mindsight that I got Janet Benrey as my agent. Forget you guys? Never! John |
