I replied to this once but must have forgotten to post the answer. I'm talented that way. Yeah. My husband flatly refuses to let me marry anyone else - male or female. He is just no fun whatsoever that way. Sorry Tracy. |

Holy Cow! I'm seeing names here I know. How exciting! Actually, I found this site from a PA post yesterday that listed all these sites that had more...um...honest opinions of PA. 'Course, the post remained but the addresses mysteriously disappeared...yes, yes, I'm working on getting my tongue out of my cheek. Anyway, it's nice to be able to speak more freely, know what I mean? Lynn Price |

Hullo Lynn, I am Claudia of Notes from Nobody, but I was exiled from the PA board about Mar of 2002. My book came out in Aug 2001, so as you can guess, I am one of the oldies, along with a lot of the others here. Welcome to our little group. I was thinking about sending a copy of my book to your for the lending library. Go to: http://notesfromnobody.homestead.com/book.html and see if you think you might like it for the group. That sort of thing happens there a lot, just keep your nose clean and don't try to put any info up on the PA boards about this site, and you will be fine. You most certainly won't ever be having posts pulled from here. You can speak and tell whatever you want and we will all understand. We have been there and although many of those here have taken themselves out of the PA world, there are still some of us, for reasons of our own, wha have left our books there. Like me. Many of us still do read the boards though, so we are familiar with most of the stuff that goes on "over there." Hope you find yourself among people here that you can relate to. Claudia |

What's this about a lending library? Hi, Lynn! Nancy Mehl |

Thanks for the welcome, Claudia and Nancy. It's nice to go where the other side of the coin is revealed. I'm sorry you got banned. In fact, there are only a few that I'm actually thrilled got banned. The rest got the hook for such inane reasons, it's left my head spinning. I feel like I'm playing both sides of the fence because while being somewhat active on their boards, I managed to get pissed off enough to where my husband and I opened up our own publishing company. We've managed to turn the heads of quite a number of PA authors who didn't want to submit their work and go through all the hassles that we go through. One woman is an editor and submitted her final ms that was about as clean as they get. Her PA 'editor' manged to introduce 300...count 'em...300 NEW ERRORS into her final copy. When she got it back for her final approval, she was pissed beyond belief and had to undo every single error. I've gotten to know many of the authors pretty well with the Lending Library (which I swear was started as a very benovelent service but now allows me to weed out the talent), and the stories are all very similar. My experience with PA actually has been good. I was more than anal about everything. I had my ms professionally edited and told them so. I lucked out with my PA 'editor' who left my ms alone. I submitted all my own artwork, which turned out to be a good thing so if I buy my contract back, the cover is mine. My problem with them is the same as everyone else's; marketing and availability in the bookstores. I did do tons of research before signing, so my eyes were wide open. But now that we've opened up our own company, PA has been wonderful at teaching us how NOT to treat people, and our authors are very pleased. Nancy, the Lending Library is something I started a while back. Any PA author may donate a book (which I warehouse) and I put it on the LL website (http://pa-lendinglibrary.com). Any PA author may borrow a book or two by clicking on the 'Order this Book' button next to each book. I mail them out and when the person is done, they mail it back along with a check for $3.85 to reimburse me for mailing costs. We have 93 books and counting. It's a good deal because it's another form of publicity and a great way of getting reviews as well. We all know the books cost a lot, so this has been a nice alternative. There really are some fabulous books in there and others that could use the benefit of a good editor. I'm off to take a look at your site, Claudia, and would love to accept your book for the LL. And as for finding people I can relate to here...heh, heh, yeah, I think that'll definitely be the case. Lynn |

Hi Lynn. I don't know who you are but HI anyway. I don't know anything about a lending library either. Lots more people read this board than I ever realized. I've had several emails from writers wanting to know if Tracy was serious about marrying me. |

Hello Lynn... Nice to meet you You mentioned "buying" back your contract from PA. I'd like to hear more about that. Wonder if it would work for me, I'm now with their "Independence Books" division. I'm one of the oldies here too, my official publish date was Dec. 29, 2000 but I paid extra to bump my printing date up so that I could have the very first ten copies off the press and they couldn't be be delivered until mid-March of 2001. Wow, Dennis, if you're an Indie boy, why would you want to buy back your contract? I know the Indie deal isn't all that it's cracked up to be, but it's far better than what we newbies have. My book was just published in late December, so I have a ways to go. I don't know squat about buying back our contracts. One of our authors is going to see about buying his out because he's famous and if the book we're publishing becomes as big as we think it will, PA will never release his contract, so he's going to try for it now. The reason I want the freedom of owning mine is to release it under our publishing company's name since we have a return policy and it'll be that much easier to get it into the bookstores. Believe me, I'll be sure to pass along whatever I can glean from our author. He was planning on calling them next week. Keep your fingers crossed! Lynn |

Welcome, Lynn. I'm not a PA author, but I was just browsing your lending library, and it's a very cool idea. Good on you. Does one have to be a PA author to borrow from it? There are several books there I would like to read. Dennis - How is Independence Books working out? http://www.mattdinniman.com |

Hi Matt, thanks for the welcome and thanks for your words on the LL. Yes, this is strictly a PA thang. 'Course, if you said you wanted to read A Separate Beginning, I'm certain a copy could find its way to you. LOL. Oh, do we allow shameless plugs here? Violet, I've only read the boards for two days now and everyone seems so delightful. I've read others that made it feel like germ warfare. Thanks for the welcome. Welcome Priceless1 I was once under contract to Publishamerica. Due to an an agreement releasing me from contract with Publishamerica, I can't comment. What I can say if you have written a complete book-length story, you can be published by a traditional publisher if you are willing to continue to write, learn, improve and write. Again welcome --- happy writing

Hi Lynn, glad to see you. I was banned from the PA site shortly around the time you arrived. Still haven't figured out why, but at this point, I'm tired of caring. My PA book came out in May 2002, and since then I've gone on to have one book published in May 2003 and I've got a new release coming out this April. I know a lot of people consider this board to be equivalent of 'germ warfare', but you'll not find a better bunch of people than those here. We're all writers and authors, coming with different experiences and backgrounds. We encourage each other to take risks, we offer a cyber-tissue when tears flow and we prop each other up to keep going when one of us stumbles. Welcome. Hope to chat more soon. Jenn

I've been banned as well. There are so many of us now, maybe we can all get badges that say "Backstage Pass: I'm With The Banned." *G* (inside joke for those of us old enough to remember guys like Hendrix, Joplin, The Byrds, whatever. A "Backstage Pass: I'm With The Band" was better than...well, practically anything) Anyway, Lynn, welcome! John Laurence Robinson "Sock Monkey Blues", PublishAmerica, May 2002 "Until the Last Dog Dies", Cook Communications/RiverOak, coming May 2004 |

LOL...oh, I don't consider this board germ warfare at all. That's why I came out of the closet, so to speak! This is such a nice group of people, it just made me want to expand my horizons a bit. Did you publish all your books with PA? After they banned you?? If so, you may have all my cyber tissues. Laurel, glad you looked at my site. Sometimes it's hard to put a face on the typing without a pic, eh? Anyway, you all are a lovely bunch and I thank you for the wonderful welcome. Lynn |
