Since I'm being portrayed on the PA board as Lynn Price's flunky henchman (Darth Vader to her Darth Sidious, Sauron to her Melkor, if you will), I felt I should set the record straight regarding my part in this sorry affair. I met Lynn Price on the PA board and we almost immediately became friends. When she first came up with the idea for the Lending Library, I was among the first people to send her a copy of my book (Moonsword). Yes, it has been taken out several times, and I've gathered some new fans, and some terrific reviews from it.

PA put Lynn and I together as roommates at their convention. I was happy about that as we were already friends. There was no secret conspiracy brewing or anything ridiculous like that.

Prior to the convention Lynn mentioned to me that her husband was starting a publishing company that was going to have a return policy and real, substansive professional editing, and a legitimate marketing effort on the corporate level. I was already dissatisfied with PA, particularly that their no-return polcy was a huge impediment to my sales. She did not steal me away from PA, as is being alleged, I left voluntarily for a better offer on my sequel (Empress of Clouds). It was my decision, our friendship was in no way dependent on my signing with Behler. There was no seduction to the "dark side" involved. I'm a big girl and I make my own decisions. It never occurred to me that having a book by another publisher would be considered treason by PA.

I missed the post on Thursday when the shit hit the fan, in fact, I didn't find out what happened until Saturday morning. Did I quit, as has been suggested, as an "offering to my new boss"? No, I was furious that PA and its self-proclaimed secret agents had unjustifibly attacked my friend; I was ashamed to be associated with them and their Nazi-esque paranoia. The incident cemented my decision, which PA's convention had similiarly confirmed...there is something rotten in the state of Maryland. Although, I did announce I was through, I later attempted to defend the truth on their board, and was summarily banned. So, yes, I was banned. I'm proud to be Lynn Price's friend, and I'm proud of my association with Behler Publications, but Diana Hignutt is no one's flunky.

I appreciate the welcome I've received here, and I'll be back, but for now I need to take a break from messageboard politics. I've lost too many friends this weekend. So, I bid you all a temporary farewell, as I concentrate my energies on productive things (like the radio interview in L.A. tomorrow to support the book I'm trying to have pulled from the shelves). I'm not looking back. Let the future be my judge.

I hear ya, Diana. As Violet said on another thread, words Can and DO hurt more than sticks and stones.

As for losing friends, maybe not. Sometimes after the fur stops flying and tempers have cooled, people come to their senses and realize what is important, and that is friendship.

Be well... we'll be here anytime you need to vent.

Diana, my friend, My heart truly bleeds to hear you've lost friends over this whole sordid affair. If PA feels the need to stick pins in my eyes, that's fine. I have teenagers and have quite broad shoulders. But to vilify my friends is just another Nazi tactic to intimidate and control.

On the other hand, if you've lost friends over this, were they truly ever your friends, or was that merely a matter of 'as long as you think as I do, we're friends'? Either way, it's beneath their dignity. Playground diplomacy went out after the 5th grade, didn't it?

I feel for your loss, but rejoice in your gain.

You al want to know something funny? With my book that will be out in May through Wings I TOLD the people at PA what I was doing (through an email) and they were fine with that. I was not banned from their boards or anything. I did NOT post about Betrayed, my novel coming out in May, on the message board, but still, the powers that be at PA knew what I was doing. Go figure.

Like I said on another thread, with this manuscript I have just finished and have had it edited by that wonderful editor person Donna Brown, I stated HERE on this board that I would not submit this one to PA, that I had had my last book published with them. I did NOT come to this decision lightly, why?, because I really do like the people (with the exception of HB and a few others) at PA.

I have said before of how wonderful Mr. Meiners was to me when that awful thing happened to me and my husband, I could not have asked for a more supportive person to be in my corner. With the two books I have published through PA they languish in never-never land, not because they are not good books, but because they are not stocked on store shelves, and they do NOTHING to promote me or any of their authors. I simply can NOT let another of my books die a slow death like that.

So, yes, I have moved on past PA and that saddens me greatly. I thank them for giving me the chance to see my work in print, but, being in print is not enough when so few readers can get their hands on my books. Its the same ole story we've heard a million times when it comes to PA, so I won't go into it again.

I will say this also about Lynn Barry. She too was wonderful to me and I will always love her for the support she gave me and I will not say anything bad about her other than I already have and that is, wondering about her friendship with HB, but that's her business and none of mine. Despite what has been said, she really is a wonderful person with a heart of gold and compassion for those in need.

Now, I will climb off my soap box and go take a shower and wash my hair. Just in case inquiring minds wanted to know my next move.
