Kevin,
You answered a question on the PA board about the difference between PA and AmErica House vs Erica House. The answer you gave is wrong, let me explain it to you and you can go to the PA board and straighten it out, OK?

Erica House was started by Willem Meiners and named in honor of his wife Erica, and was mostly religion based materials that were published. I get confused by non-secular and secular and the difference between them, so forgive me, I can't decide which is the one that I want to state was Erica House or AmErica House. But it was the other one that eventually became AmErica House, (non-religion based). Willem published his book under that imprint (Erica House).

AmErica House Publishers was started a while later, but carried a different IMPRINT and STILL has NEW authors signed to it on a semi-regular basis. I think that there are about 167 in that group, mostly stories of "overcoming obstacles and inspiration" type. My book is under that Imprint. There was a new one on the AmErica list just added last month or so. Can't remember the name of it though.

PublishAmerica came along about the same time, maybe a few months to six months after AmErica House got its start and was more for the general type books, novels, stories, childrens books, general stuff. Most of the books are under that Imprint, however, not all, and as I stated above, there are still new ones that come out with the AmErica House lable. PublishAmerica is the catch all, and is mostly used for new stuff, but not always. I think AmErica House was the non-religion based imprint when Erica House was the religious based one and then PA came along and took up the slack and became the general books imprint.

Anyway, just thought that you could pass that info along to those that want to know, and so that you would know also. The only reason I know it is because I have been with them since they were Erica House. I am not trying to be critical or anything, just thought that you and everyone should know the best possible answer from what I have gleaned over the years. Unless of course, Willem Meiners or someone else from PA comes up with a more true version, and you can all go with that one, for whatever reasons you want to.

Hey, I was just over at the PA board and noticed that the whole thread about this very subject has been removed. I was only really trying to be helpful on this answer as I was confused myself when I first started trying to figure it all out. I wasn't trying to be contentious or anything, and I am sorry if you posted my answer in any form and it got you banned or that was why the thread was removed. Just wanted to help you and others with the answer, is all....... I had the same questions because I was one of only a few that had the AmErica House Imprint, not because I would have noticed it for any other reason. Truly, I wasn't even looking for a PA imprint or the different ones that they used until I noticed that mine was different that others on the boards, both here and there. Sorry.......

Well, that was what was stated a while back on some site or other, maybe Erica House's, or in a thing that was talking about the going from Erica House to PA and all the in-between stops company wise. Some writers advertisement or propaganda blast from PA, or something. Can't remember what it was, but I thought that was kinda sweet, to name a company after your wife. That was why it stayed with me. Probably the only thing he ever did or would think of doing that was sweet....

However, I might be wrong about the reason for the name, it is possible. But the rest of it is pretty accurate, I think.

Oh, Lynn, I wasn't correcting you in any way. I might very well be wrong on that thing about Erica being his wife or that reason for the company being named that. I do have blonde moments and memory slips every so often. I just seem to have that in the back of my mind for some reason.

Who HB or Meiners having a successful life? Either one, I would certainly wish the least amount of success to...... but that, again, is just me, being a nasty b****y thing.

Perhaps the company was named after Erica, in the hopes that she would become his wife, or perhaps they have gotten a divorce and that was why the company was renamed, I don't know. Or perhaps he had his mistress at the convention. Interesting what-if's.

The biggest thing that was so funny about that whole post and my answer to KevinY was that because I put something on this board in regard to the question that was asked on that board, that whole thread got pulled.... oh, the awesome power I have, from clear across the land. My long arms reach out and envelope PA. RIGHT!!!!

Me thinks... I am going to answer a lot of questions that are asked on that board over here and see exactly what PA does to stop me from my free speech rights.

Thanks for the info Claudia. I had heard as well that Erica House was named for his wife, but I had also heard that America House just changed the name to Publish America. It's a moot point now though, oh well. I tried to help answer someones question, but it is no longer there. Wonder why? It was a harmless question.
