We just had our new baby come today. 7 pounds 14 ounces, 20 inches long.
After our first son was born, 36 hours of labor and an hour of pushing, this one was easier. Started inducing her at 1:30 pm, 4:18 pm he arrived. This one might have been faster because our first was 9 pounds 4 ounces and 22 inches.
Now we must decide on a name. Need your help here. Which one do you like best?

how about Aidan Carter Yarbrough? ACY for initials..... but then if you must go for one of the two, Aidan Wyatt Yarbrough is good. I have a grandson named Wyatt Turner, who's father is Thadd Matthew Turner.
Give Momma the biggest kiss in the world, she deserves it. CONGRATS on the newest little Yarbrough addition.

too many sylabs with the middle name so long. What about Carter Shane Yarbrough, I know, I am throwing you loops out of nowhere, but because you have a long last name, you want to keep the middle name short and succinct, am I making sense? A middle name with a long sound just doesn't flow right. Or reverse the Matthew to the first name and put in a really short middle name.... or even Matthew Carter Yarbrough is good, sorta flows OK.

oh, I don't know, I'm not that good at names......
you can have a longer first name and short middle and long last name, but you can't have all three and make the tongue want to say it right. Just my stupid name observations.... my daughter's name is Amber Beth Turner, which are all rather short but easy to say together.
A boys name is something that will stay with him all of his life, and you have to think about how he would want it when he is older. Something rather distinguished, no nonsense, business like yet not too formal, something with a bit of class that a woman would want to have as her name also. If you had a short last name, it would be a lot easier, cause with a short name, you can put long first and second names in and not get all tongue twisted. Plus, you don't want something that everyone will be shortening for the sake of a nickname abreviation. When I named my daughter, I went for Amber cause I thought, "now here's a name no one can shorten," well, the first one to shorten it was her Dad, who called her Amby. I lived with Claudia all my life and have had so many people drag it all over the place, not being able to spell it, some can't pronounce it, everyone wanted to give me a nickname, and I vowed not to give my girl a name that would give her problems, and her father was the first to butcher it.

I'm no help on names.We had two of our three named when I went into the hospital and they came out with completely different names. My oldest was Wesley Daniel prior to and during birth. We named him Forrest David, called him David for about an hour and he's been Forrest ever since. The next one was Abby the whole the time I was pregnant. Her dad was carrying her to the little bed seconds after birth and said "her name is Melissa" and so it was. The youngest was a little more difficult and we played around with several names, but settled on naming him after my husband's dad. |

Ack, the lone Californian weighs in with Carter. Must be too much granola in my brain.
Kevin, congrats to you and your wife. As long as everyone is healthy and happy, you can sit on the name for a while. It'll come to you. I remember my husband and I were in such a quandary with our first, we called him Pop Tart throughout my entire pregnancy.
Better rest up, Dad, it'll be some looong, sleepless nights.

Trina, I said "easier", and I only say this because she said it was. So it was her words. Compared to our first child, this one was a breeze. She had a hard time with the pregnancy and that is why I didn't say that was easy. The labor was easier compared to our first son. 7 hours of labor compared to 36 hours. 10 minutes of pushing compared to an hour. 7 pushes compared to....well hell, I don't know how many my first one was, lost count. She did not dialate all the way with the first, there was a rim she had to push around (pushing a 9 + pound baby around a 9 and a half dialation isn't easy). No episiotomy, only two stitches for a small tear compared to a big one with our first.
So all in all, yeah it was easier, but then agin those are her words, not mine.
Lynn, so sorry, but we went with Elijah. We both liked Carter, but Carter Yarbrough is kind of a tounge twister. Say is three times fast, turn around and stand one one foot and see what happens, while drinking a beer. Plus my oldest son liked Elijah. Don't feel bad about calling your kid pop tart, we called this one Bump for the whole pregnancy. Take care and treat y our authors good (even though I know you are).

We are arguing over names now...
While I have no trouble naming characters, this is a tough one...mainly because I am being blackmailed into including her grandparents names as middle names...sigh...the things ya gotta do...it would be ok if her gramma had a NORMAL name.

I could give the board a thousand guesses and they would never come up with her name...at least it will only be a MIDDLE name, but NOTHING goes with it....sigh...I will reveal it ONLY if I have a daughter..and folks will go WHAAATTTTT?

I hear you Shrews. I can name characters at the drop of a hat, but naming my own kid was hard. Maybe because they have to live with the name everyday and you don't want to pick one that will get them made fun of. I also wanted a name that wasn't that common. I didn't want my son going to school and the teacher asking "Adam," and five boys, one girl, the janitor, and a seeing eye dog replying.

I'm not making it up. Not Viola, not Violet...
It could be worse....everyoen else in her family is named Irene, Ilene, Sadie, Mabel ETC...not MY FAULT my family has good names.
My son is named John August Shrewsbury after my late dad (John) and my grandpa on Mom's side, August Edward Frederick Vilhelm Denker (Whew).
Now, it is time for payback, I guess....with a long name like my last one, there should be a shorter first name. I think the Ideal name for a girl would be Erin Elizabeth Shrewsbury. It has beauty. Elizabeth is my mother's middle name (and my wife likes it for a first name) but Elizabeth Vialee Shrewsbury sounds kinda screwy to me....

The boys names are just as big of a train wreck. All of the good Bible names are taken in my family, Mark, Mike, David, Jacob, Nathan...argh....and she is insisting her late grandfather's name, Kenneth, be the middle name...
This is sorta a major funny fight we are having, because with my son, it was decided immediately...and I am so good with names, as is my wife...but crap, I feel I may lose this war...

I think that Vialee is a very pretty name. I know a gal named Valen, which I think is pretty also. It is both a bit odd and not so prone to shortcuts, and not going to get a nickname given. I like that name (Vialee), but then again, I am sort of a screwball that way. I also like the name Layle, but...... And Darcy and Nona and several others. My middle name is Beth, not Elizabeth, just Beth, and of course, I gave it on to my daughter.

I think Jerimiah Kenneth Shrewsbury has a certain ring to it, but then again, that is just me.
I know what you mean about family of hulking men. My dad has had 6 boys and no girls, me and my one brother have only had boys and my mom is dying for a granddaughter. I'm begining to think that girls are not going to be made by me or my brothers. Out of thirty kids, grandkids, and great grandkids (30 in all of these, not 30 kids) I think there are only about 6 girls.
If I ever did have a girl I wouldn't know what to do. I would just stand there and stare at her, afraid to touch her. Then I would run out and buy a chastity belt, a shotgun, and a doberman. See how many boys come by to take her out then. I would probably be the type of dad that would have the shotgun siting out on my lap, cleaning it while the boy waited for my daughter to come down.
"What are you going to do tonight with my daughter?"
"Go to a movie," he jumps as I slide a shell in the gun.
"Are you sure?"
Yeah," he slides back in the chair as far as he can go as I lift the gun up and check the sight, his crotch in the view. "or we could just stay here and watch some movies....does your wife need help with the dishes?"
"Wife? Now you're looking at my wife. What my daughter not good enough for you? You want both of them? You probably want them together don't you, make you feel like a stud?"
"No,no,no,no, it's not that, not that at all. Where is Elijah?"
"Now you want my son too?" Locking the shell in place he jumps up and scoots towards the door.
"I got to go," running out the door he screams as he runs down the road.
"DADDY!" my daughter screams before running back upstairs.
"Kevin," my wife says, shaking her head.
"She wasn't wearing her chastity belt,"
"They are on the same little leauge team, the whole team is going to the movies."
"It will kep him off of her though won't it?"
"They are only eight years old,"
"He will think twice about it when he is older now, won't he?" shaking her head my wife goes to console our daughter. Putting the gun up I grab a beer, stop my oldest boy as he walks towards the door.
"Where you going?"
"Date,"
"With who?"
"Mary at 6, Amy at 9." Taking some money out of my wallet I hand it to him.
"You know what to get with this?"
"Yeah,"
"Good, cause I'm not ready to be a grandpa yet." He walks out the door and gets in the car. As he backs out I shut the door, swig my beer, belch, and scratch my crotch.
"That's my boy," plopping down in front of the tv i watch the game.
(Just messing guys I wouldn't do this. I would make my son buy his own rubbers.)

If I were to have another, which is not in my future as long as this menopause thing keeps going the way it's supposed to, I'm pretty sure she would be Lilija ViviAnne. Lilija after my maternal grandmother, ViviAnne, I just like. I chose my daughter's name to honor friends and family. I had a friend when I was 9 whose name I loved. Abigayle. And Miss Gayle's middle name is in honor of my paternal grandmother, my sister, and the many friends in my life named Elizabeth.
I don't know for certain what I would choose for a boy's name. My son is named after his paternal grandfather, Glenn Dale. The original name I'd chosen for a boy, Nicholas James, was negated when my sister named her 2nd boy Nicholas Wayne. Too close to use my chosen name. So, when my ex suggested naming Glenn as we did, I was thrilled. My ex-father-in-law is a wonderful man who deserved the honor of having his grandson as a namesake.
Of course, the oldest girl and I had chosen a boy's name in the event that Abi had come out differently. We had chosen Gavin Alexander, much against the very vocal protests of my husband, who had nothing logical to offer as to why he didn't like it.
But that will not come up for me, so long as luck remains on my side. LOL.

Thanks everybody, another year of no sleep and poopie diapers. Not to mention college,clinicals, a four year old with high functiong Autism, part time job, wife, and writing. I'm going to busy, if you don't here from me in awhile then I might have checked into the psych ward of our hospital.
