A week ago, Karen Syed at Echelon Press offered Peter Welmerink and I a contract to publish BEDLAM UNLEASHED short story as a dollar download....but we balked when we saw they would retain ALL print rights for 2 years. Now, we are actively working to sell this tale (and the soon-to-be-finished antho of tales featuring berserker Erik Bedlam) and this just wouldn't do. Afeared of the result, I pressed on and wrote to Karen, saying we would be happy to give electronic rights, but not the print rights.
Ya Know what happened?
She said she would change the contract for us.
Thought that was mighty nice of her 
I deal with quite a few folks in this biz...and ya never know what ya will get....so...that was a nice outcome.

I'm not surprised Steven. Karen might be a smart businesswoman, but she's also reasonable. I'm really looking forward to my novella with Echelon. It'll be out next month.

Some times folks pull a "hard sell" on you, but frankly, I was like, "Well, too bad, wish we coulda worked with her....but figured, hey, may as well ASK." See how easy that was?
I know a few folks who fancy themselves writers, and well, they are dejected because certain groups of writers do not care for them. I tell them to shrug it off and find READERS that do like them.

I have a family member who constantly bemoans the fact that nobody likes her, she has no friends, everyone is down on her and etc. Her perspective is skewed. It isn't that nobody likes her, it's that she makes it so darn hard to maintain any kind of ongoing relationship because she has a mean mouth.
My personal stuff aside, I'm happy to see you persevering and branching out, Steven. As John Robinson would say - Good on ya!! |

Just received the NEW revised contract for BEDLAM story....AND one for my detective tale featuring aged Chicago cop August MaKallum called JULIES RITUAL MURDER.
