Hey you guys, you want to read something really screwy? Take a gander at this...... The Robert Bly that PA is talking about in this posting is about 80 years old and does have a lot of books out and did win the National Book Award, but is NOT the same person who wrote the "All-American Frank" (this is just way to dumb)..... and funny!!!!

This is the initial post from InfoCenter the other day about that new celebrity author that PA has joining the ranks:
"Infocenter
Administrator

7/02/2004
17:13:13
Subject: Celebrity Author Joins PublishAmerica!

Message:
To all PublishAmerica authors:
We will soon release this news by email to everyone, but let's break it here first:

Today the world famous poet and essayist, and international bestselling author, Robert Bly, has signed a contract with PublishAmerica for his new book, The All-American Frank.

Robert Bly is a winner of the nation's ultimate literary prize, the National Book Award, which has so far only been awarded to the very greatest in American literature. His earlier works have been published by houses such as HarperCollins, Scribners, Henry Holt, and Vintage.

Mr. Bly contacted us a few months ago through his literary agent letting us know that he wanted to join the talented army of PublishAmerica authors, and we were quick, happy, and proud to welcome this legendary author into our midst.

Welcome to PublishAmerica, Robert Bly!"

Now today there is a new message on the bottom of the thread that has this information, written by one of the authors:

"Message:
Will the real Robert Bly please stand up?

http://www.bly.com/Pages/about.html

http://www.publishersmarketplace.com/cgi-bin/displayRights.pl?rights_no=663

or

http://www.robertbly.com/

You be the judge."

Now the deal is that the man PA stated oh so proudly in the first infocenter message is not the man that they have under contract. The man that wrote the book that they ??PURCHASED?? from Publishers MarketPlace is not written by the world renoun man Robert Bly who won the National Book Award, but by an 30+ something guy who writes how-to books and the like. Not a poet or an essayist or anything great, but yes, he has published a number of books. LAUGH OF THE YEAR!!!!! And PA contacted him from an ad on Publishers MarketPlace or maybe he contacted them, but what a JOKE

Thanks to the poster on the PA board who put htis last message up, I don't want ot name him because he will be abnned and have to come here soon.......

Me thinks PA had best start researching their books that they pick up off of places like Publsihers MarketPlace or look into the authors bios a bit more or something.......THIS IS WAY TOOOOOOO FUNNY...... PA came out with this huge lie and they touted it all over the boards and they just made themeslves the biggest fool in the world by not checking and EDITING their own work..... This has to go in the "I CAN'T BELIEVE THEY ATE THE WHOLE THING" BOOK OF RECORDS!!!!

MAKES EVERY ONE OF OUR STUPID LITTLE BLUNDERS LOOK LIKE GRAINS OF SAND NEXT TO THIS ONE, DONE BY THEMSELVES. WE WERE STUPID AND WANTED TO BELIEVE WE HAD A GOOD PUBLSIHER, BUT THEY ARE THE STUPIDEST THINGS THAT EVER WALKED THE FACE OF THE EARTH SINCE THE DINOSAURS...... I AM STILL LAUGHING!!!!

I know I spelled Laugh wrong in the topic but I was LAUGHING so hard I couldn't see, then as soon as I closed that post out and went back to close out the PA thread, the post by that other person and the whole thread had been deleted...... they sure got on that one fast, but not fast enough, I GOT THERE FIRST>>>>>> hahhaahhahahhahahhahhahahhhahahhahahhehehehehehhheh
that other post was put up at 9:33 this AM and deleted JOHNNY-ON-THE-SPOT RIGHT AWAY!!!! sometimes it pays to read the PA boards and get the laugh of the year from them. boy do they look stupid with egg all over their faces!!!

You know out here in Nevada we have a porta-potty company named Johnny-on-the-Spot.

My editor must have gotten a promotion. Naw, guess not or his name would have been spelled wrong. I hope the wrong guy got big bucks.

Claudia, don't be too hard on them. You know what my editor said, "WE ALL NEEDS HELP SOMETIMES."

Yea, but Molly,
I SAVED IT FOR POSTERITY...... I bet PA is sucking up crap right now, and I have it already printed and put here and in my file, so that maybe if the time ever comes up where I need to show how STUPID this company is and how CROOKED they are about lying to their authors with the things that they put out for consumption and profiteering, I HAVE IT PRINTED OUT, right from their board. Thank the good little people who invented computers........ It seems that the more I see of this company, the more the joke turns out to be on THEM. Sure, they still have my book, but boy, I am sure glad I am not a laughing-stock like they are. All they can say to me was I was dumb enough to believe my Agent, and then them, about the lies that they told me. I sure as hell didn't tell lies to them or try to coerce anyone into buying my book by telling the whole world that I had under contract or was a would renoun author who won the National Book Award....... gigigigigiiiggllelelelgigigigilellelelellele heehhehehhshahhdhahdhhadhhdhahdhhaa!!!!! At least my mistake in dealing with PA as just being dumb at the time, not being STUPID and trying to promote my LIES.

I STILL CAN'T BELIEVE THAT THEY ATE THE WHOLE THING

ME BBADDDDDDD BADD CLAUDIA, I AM HAVING WAY TOOOOOOO MUCH FUN WITH THIS!!!! SLAP MY HAND, I AM A BAAADDDD GIRL for laughing so hard at this

Here is the addy of the Robert Bly that they referred to in the original post by InfrCenter: http://www.robertbly.com , just so you all know what is what and that I am not just blowing smoke on this.... this is the guy that I checked out when the post was first put up, because I wanted to see why a guy of his PA touted abilities would come to PA in the first place. And I am sure that they thought that they had this guy also... but then they should have looked at where the book came from, cause the "OTHER" Robert Bly is very forthright about who he is and what he has written and even gives the name of his latest book, "The All-American Frank" along with all of his other books.

I think what has me most confused is how they could get the wrong guy's bio in the first place. When one negotiates a contract, it is presumed the one offering the contract knows who they are dealing with. Right? Then again, perhaps I'm taking too much for granted here.

I wonder if the REAL nationally known and acclaimed National Book Award winner, Robert Bly knows that his latest book, "The All-American Frank" (said tongue in cheek) has been offered a contract by PA, and what he thinks about the whole using his bio to promote them and their prestige amongst PA authors as being the greatest thing since sliced cheese and having his book published by them, really would think about the whole thing?

Could PA be sued for this by him, the 80 year old Robert Bly, essayist, poet, I wonder?

Gee, I just might drop this chap a line tonight, to see what he thinks about all of it!!!
HEY PA, YOU BETTER GET THAT RELEASE IN THE EMAIL (and snail mail) TO ME BEFORE I DO JUST THAT!!!!!

I have the goods on 'em. And now I may just get them sued by one of the big guys, I wonder just what it will take for me to get him to do it? His good name is being besmirched by some lowly publisher wannabe who thinks that by snagging someone of the likes of him that they can ride his coattails and get his good works in their company hands, yea right!!!! They should have known better.

Now they don't need Marcus to make them seem like fools, they are doing it all by themselves..... that post was up on the authors lounge since 7-2 when they announced it and you should have seen all (I think there were 49 other posts in there) the people telling this guy that PA was the best and that they welcome him to the happy little PA family and all the rest of the crap, and some even went so far as to try to tell him how to join in and become one with them and also that he might benefit by the PA experience...... and then the last post was put up that I copied, on 7-5, a full 3 days, seems to me that the elder Mr. Robert Bly and his agent might have some really good things to say to an attorney and through that attorney, to PA, for taking his reputation down the tubes to their depth.

It will be interesting to see if, like any reputable firm, PA will print a retraction and notify their happy little band that they screwed up big time.
What do you think?

Claudia - I'm sorry but I (and probably others) already contacted Robert Bly to let him know about the problem at PA. I didn't do it out of anger or anything else other than a concern that his work was being promoted by PA and I thought he should be aware of that fact. I have read Bly's poetry and even taught it in classes last semester and I hated to see PA using him as a promotional tool. I don't know if my email had anything to do with the removal of the thread from PA boards or not, but I am glad to see that it is gone. PA should be ashamed but I don't care about them. I do care about the reputation of a well-known and respected writer.

Let me get this straight. PA says they've just signed a nationally known, highly regarded elder statesman poet...to publish a book on wieners. Now THAT'S poetic justice!! ROFLMAO! Oh,Margaret, this is rich....

I'm still laughing here (and the fact I've been working on my next Joe Box book for nearly ten hours straight today has nothing at all to do with me being punchy...honest.)

Weiner...think about it...the word itself is funny...say it with me now...weee---nerrr...

Think of what a loss it would be to the King's English if that word should ever vanish...how many three-year-old boys would be deprived of the simple pleasure of the silliness of that word...or of the fifty-two year grandpas like me who gleefully educate them to its joys?

Weiner...

(customer to butcher):"Say, Bud, how are your wieners?"

(patron):"I'd like my wiener steamed in beer with hot mustard, please."

(sweetheart to cheap date):"Oh, Freddie, I love it here at the ballpark. The Cincinnati Reds always have such fine weiners!"

(PA shill): "Yes, ladies and gentlemen, we have at long last published THE definitive tome on weiners. And let me assure you, my friends, we know whereof we speak..."

(chortle, snort, gasp...) I take it back. I AM punchy.

Weiners....oh, please, no more...

I read the original post, checked it out, rolled my eyes, and my dissatisfaction with PA just gets more and more validated every single day. From the cancelled book signings from bookstores, to the people that can't even find the book to order, I'm giving up on PA. I like some of the authors still there; it's the only reason I put in a token post, but I think the only way my PA book is going to move, is that it might be riding on the coattails of my second book, from the occasional interview where the book is mentioned (I will not mention PA as the publisher. It'll be like shooting Diana's marketing efforts in the foot).

It amazes me during royalties paymonth, all the authors make "jokes" about the McDonalds happy meals they were able to buy with their meager checks. It was that post last August that made me decide PA would not ever touch another one of my books.

'Nough said. I wonder what the PA author Robert Bly is thinking about all this? Second thoughts perhaps?

Too funny, but deserving from a personal standpoint. And because many believe that PA reads this board, better that I post here than e-mail the company.

A week before the Bly announcement, that nameless, faceless, ageless, genderless, numberless, and even location-less entity known as Infocenter (rather Kafkaesque, don't you think?) locked me out of the boards after I responded in my frank and direct fashion to its explanation for why it deleted my thread, which was a nice piece of writing intended to show a softer side of myself, one less contentious. The piece was done up creatively in the second person, and several others posted they thought the selection was terrific, that they truly enjoyed reading it.

Infocenter's decision to ban yours truly from the boards, I think, was an attempt to prove wrong a statement in my reply: namely, that it could keep and delete posts only "up to a point." But it proved otherwise, and the Bly blunder undescores its shortsightedness and reckless decision-making. When I read the words Bly, National Book Award, and "All-American Frank" in the same message, my doubter buzzer went off at once, and even on these old copper lines we have in the boonies, it took little more than a minute to find that a big mistake had been made. Had I not been banned from the boards, I might have saved the company from having egg on its face. As it is, it's another example of getting what's deserved.

My gosh, Frank, I can barely believe you've been banned. Surely it was a mistake. I'm flummoxed after reading your post here.

As for your softer side, I can testify that you have one. Writers of your range always have multifaceted personalities.

A writer whose publisher bans them from interacting with their peers on a public message board is beyond my comprehension. That publisher is earning the lion's share of money from each author's book It would be like Dandelion Books banning me from receiving their newsletters. Of course, Dandelion would never do that.

FE,
What I find is the strangest thing on this thread is not that you were banned from PA, but that you chose to announce it on a thread that I started since you obviously disdain anything that I put my name to and find it such a very hard thing to even read. You stated here for the world to see that you never read any of my "look at me" posts as all they are is a bid for everyone's attention, yet you put your announcement up here.

As far as I am concerned, (and you probably won't read any further, if you have read this far), you knew when you started posting here that eventually PA would get wind of that fact, but you opted to persist. Meiners has read and even at points long ago, contributed to this board. Maybe you didn't know that, but since then, he and his staff have kept a very close watch on everything that is put out on any threads here. We do know it for fact. With Marcus and several others reviling this board all the time if a mention of the "other" board shows up, you should have known why it happens. There has been a strong sentiment of, dare is say, FEAR about anything that is posted here, as we are the people who have known the truth about PA long before they even had a message board, which, btw, was the way that they tried to counteract anyone coming over here, because this one was up about 5 months prior to PA's. And prior to that, there was another one that this one sprouted from. We who have been here a long time have known the truth since those days when that other board was started and forced by PA to close down. That was when the truth of the company we were all tied up with started to come to light. We tried to get the word out and tell people about it, and that was when Meiners and crew started monitoring this board.

Anyway, I will be a nice person and say welcome to this humble abode for disenfranchised PA authors, and others who just may like us for some odd assortments of reasons. We strive only to make our lives and the lives of others that join the ranks, more livable by the facts that we pass along and give freely so that others may know someone else has walked in their footsteps and felt the same pains and frustrations the same way.

Claudia--

Apparently my little shot at you a while back has been festering somewhat. You'll die young if you allow stuff like that to get to you. As for what I wrote, you wrongly characterized it as my announcement of being banned. I would not have mentioned the matter at all except for the Bly mistake and how I might have saved PA from egg on its face, had I not been banned. As I said, getting locked out occurred on or about the 23rd of June. It's of some importance as it interfers in the commercial sale of one's books to other writers and possible lurkers, but apart from that it's nothing for me to get excited about. If you haven't figured it out I, quite simply, try to go where I want to go. And I change my mind if warranted or just feel like it, which in your case means that I do read a post of yours from time to time, usually the shorter ones.

You also wrongly think I give a hoot if others are monitoring the board. If it's John Ashcroft, you'd be right. Anyone else, PA or who-have-you, checking on what is written here or elsewhere doesn't mean a thing.

People come to this and other boards for various reasons. I have never visited them as a quest for friendship, although I have made a few friends for which I'm grateful. I come mostly for information and deliberate distraction, the latter probably an excuse for not writing and thinking. I come for good, spirited discussion also but am of the mind now that the Internet does not provide well in this case. It seems egos are too quick to surface.

People on boards often claim to speak the truth about matters. Yet to this day all the truth I know is what I really know firsthand. And I am quite aware of what I don't know. For example, here is all I know about getting locked out of the PA boards: Infocenter did it. Now look at all that I don't know. Some I've previously mentioned. I don't know for a fact if the person who made the decision is male or female, young or old. I don't if it was only one person; perhaps it was a group decision. I do not know where this person(s) are located. Perhaps in Frederick, perhaps it's one of the jobs shipped overseas to Rawalpindi. Here's something else I know that may or may not have bearing: 3, 4 years ago when I first did some research on Erica House, I discovered a link that erroneously went to some other business in Frederick. I notified the webmasters of this. Are they today's Infocenter? Are they an integral part of PA? Or might the job have been assigned with certain parameters to an outside group who are webmasters for several businesses?

Well, I've written more than I ever intended. Have a good day.

FE,
You wrote "You'll die young if you allow stuff like that to get to you."

At this point I would justly say that statement is moot, as I am already very quickly closing in on 60 years of age, so I don't think I'll be dying young anytime soon. I would submit to you that young is fairly under the age of 45 or thereabouts. Perhaps even up to 50 in some circles, but certainly not closing in on 60 very fast.

As far as the rest of it, I know not where anyone else is in the company or the people who bill themselves as InfoCenter might be located, and really don't care a bit. They could be in Siberia for all I worry about it. I do remember that link you are talking about and I think it went to the company that Clopper owned or had some interest in that did their web design and hosting, but I can't remember the name of the company. And as far as I know Clopper came into PA as back up money at around that time. Maybe CE or Dennis might remember the name of it. We did talk about it a few times on Writers Island.

I wasn't thinking you gave a hoot about the PA monitoring of our board, just thought that you might want to know that it does indeed happen, frequently. And I, along with quite a few others, used to care about it, but somehow, maybe it just shows them for the fools that they really are, now.

At any rate, thanks for answering my reply to you, and reading my post. Take care and have a wonderful day.

Actually, I doubt PA feels they have egg on their face. Their little announcement accomplished all they could hope. Many of their folks saw it and will go around telling others how their publisher publishes Robert Bly -- THE Robert Bly. Many did not see Fredrick's "Will the real Robert Bly?" post as it vanished rather quickly.

After all, they felt no shame at announcing in HUGE letters that they had Pulitzer nominated writers. They kept the announcement up even after being repeatedly corrected on *their own* message board. Despite the fact that they KNEW it was wrong information, it accomplished what they hoped. There are STILL people who believe PA has had Pulitzer nominated writers because I've seen it spoken of on other boards as one of the bits of "proof" of how great PA is.

PA injected the idea that Robert Bly is doing a hot dog book for them, many of their own writers believe it and will continue to believe it and will tell others about it. If it gets even a few more folks into the fold -- it wasn't a "mistake" in PA's book -- it was clever marketing.}

When you speak in general terms "we have a Pulitzer nomnated writer" is very different from saying a person's name and the name of a book......

Maybe all the real Mr. Bly will want is a correction or he may want to sue for libel...........They even said his agent called them and asked.....the agent may not be terribly thrilled about them damaging his reputation......bet this one is going to cost them big time.........

I sure hope so anyway.

Molly
