Earlier today I wrote: PW just reported that Amazon will require POD publishers to use its own subsidiary BookSurge to print its books if they do not want their 'Buy' buttons to be disabled. Here is a link http://writersweekly.com/ from the article that explains what is going on. In a response from Amazon, it was said this move will help better serve POD customers, as many POD publishers are not living up to Print-On-Demand. Then Fred responded: One more reason why Amazon has become the biggest trash fish in the pond. However, they mostly swim in circles and don't do much harm. Besides, there are lots of other fish, most of whom are of benefit. Ignore this bottom dweller and take your business elsewhere. 3-dollar gas. Writers' strike. Read a great book by F. E. Mazur. So what happened here? I posted the Writers Weekly link. Then came a response from Fred. Later, when I checked, the spam had attacked and Fred's and my posts were gone. Which is why I reposted them together in another post after finding they were still in my cache. (WHY DID OURS DISAPPEAR?) Anyway, since no one has been responding, I'm wondering if many of you checked things out. Here's the gist. The "Buy New" buttons for most, if not all, PA books have been disabled. Mine, Laurel's 'Grass Dance,' Dennis's 'Unreal McCoy,' and so on. Other POD books may also have been subjected to the same, although the few I checked by other POD publishers were not included. What it means is that you cannot buy a PA book from Amazon, only from the secondary sources they list. On Angela Hoy's site (the link I included) there are also replies from others at the very end of her long piece on the matter. The first reply there was from Meiners. You might want to read it and some of the others, plus give some to this matter and what it means and could mean. 3-dollar gas. Writers' strike. Read a great book by F. E. Mazur. I read this yesterday, Frank, but was also confused by your quote from Fred and wondered what happened to the original post. yes, I got the email from PA and checked Amazon to discover the "buy" button had been disabled on The Grass Dance -- or replaced. I'm not sure what it means, but suspect it does not bode well. My Dandelion-published books were being printed by BookSurge long before they joined forces with Amazon, but not sure if they are now being printed by BookSurge or Lightning Source. One reason you may not be getting responses here is that many of the writers here are no longer associated with PA, thus the problem does not exist for them. I'm not sure whether Amazon sent this mandate to ALL POD publishers who don't use BookSurge for printing, or just PA? I'll read the link you included and see if that question is answered there. As always.....the authors had no warning and no say in any of these decisions. Laurel Johnson http://laureljohnsonblogs.blogspot.com

All the AIB titles are still available to order new. However, I signed the petition against Amazon.com that Writer Beware is promoting. Bump what? Or is it whom? I hope it's bump and grind! My idiot neighbor made dirt speed bumps in our alley and when speeders hit the last one too fast they sail through my ornamental wrought iron gate and wind up under the avocado tree in my back yard. I'm thinking about setting up a lemonade stand. http://www.fdungan.com/duke.htm |

I am curious as to how this is going to work, too. The AIB titles are physically stocked at Amazon. There is no lag time in shipping with these books so the reason Amazon gives for wanting to shift everyone to Booksurge is moot. If they are really trying to ship all books from one order as they say, there is no reason to require those POD publishers to do anything more than stock a few copies. This is certainly a lot less expensive than requiring publishers to set up accounts with two different printers. I suspect Amazon is only trying to increase their POD printing business. I also think most publishers will ship five copies to Amazon and continue on without incident. PA won't because it is not in their best interest. All this did was take one more headache away from PA. I wouldn't be surprised if they aren't secretly celebrating.
