I live within spitting distance of Canada and was over there a couple of weeks ago. I bought some gas (at close to $5.00 a gallon) and went to dinner using my debit card for both transactions. The exchange rate was $0.9912US for $1.00 Canadian. My bank charged a 1% surcharge for foreign transactions. I got a $50.00 Canadian check (honorarium)for participating in a writer's conference and when I cashed it at a bank in the US, I got $42.50. The exchange rate may be hurting somebody but it sure ain't the banks. Dennis Collins Moderator www.theunrealmccoy.com http://theunrealmccoy.blogspot.com |
